Cambrelle® manufacturer doubles capacity in China

Due to increased demand for the world’s leading branded shoe lining, the maker of Cambrelle® has expanded its facilities in China, doubling its capacity from a year ago and opening a new production facility near Shanghai.

UK-based Camtex Fabrics expanded production from the UK into China five years ago, principally to be closer to the footwear companies it supplies and help shorten ‘time-to-market’. The group’s extra factory means it can focus more production on its new developments.

“Normally, Cambrelle® is a nylon product,” explains Camtex Fabrics chief executive Kieran O'Hare, “but part of the reason we’re moving a second production line to China is that we can now produce a polyester version there, which is popular among sports shoe brands, particularly adidas.”

Cambrelle® is a fast-wicking, highly absorbent, abrasion-resistant fabric that is trusted by some of the world's leading shoe makers, including adidas, Timberland and New Balance. It is made using special bicomponent fibres in a thermal point-bonding process that results in a strong, drapable fabric that can be cut cleanly with no edge-fray.

Around 60% of Cambrelle® is manufactured in the north of England, with 40% now made in China.

About Cambrelle®:

The bi-component fibres in Cambrelle® mean the non-woven fabric is consistent across the lining, making it hardwearing and adding to the cushioning effect to create a constant, comfortable micro-climate around the foot. As it is so effective at dispersing moisture, the lining also helps to prevent staining of the upper from excess moisture and prevents the build-up of bacteria that can cause mildew and odour.
